Birlinn Books launched their latest rugby book "Southern Comfort - The Story of Borders Rugby" by journalist Neil Drysdale at the Heart of Hawick with an intimate conversation with two Scottish Rugby legends, John Rutherford (Selkirk) and Gary Armstrong (Jedforest). The book has been released in association with the Bill McLaren Foundation and is priced £16.99 from all good bookshops - for more information on the book click here

The book itself delves into the rich history of the sport in the South of Scotland and is very well researched as you would expect. Borders Rugby Radio was there at the launch to record the evening and you can hear highlights from the event here in a special 35 minute programme. There's a wee bit of strong language in there but we're pretty sure no one will be offended. :)

Thanks to Birlinn Books we had two copies of the book to give away in a simple competition; all we needed to know was the name of Gala's home ground. The answer of course was Netherdale and the first two correct answers out from the 178 of you who took part came from south of the Border! So well done to Chris Kenton in Stoke-on-Trent and Alison Grimshaw from Newcastle. Your books are on their way to you.

On the radio show you'll hear John and Gary, along with Neil Drysdale, talking about Bill McLaren, the South of Scotland, the demise of the Border Reivers, and some of the great characters from this area including Jim Telfer. The 15 chapters in the book cover all aspects of Borders Rugby and there's a foreword by rugby legend David Campese who waxes lyrical about Borders Rugby.
