Gala put on one of their best displays of the season at Netherdale in the only game in the Borders which survived the weather to make it five wins out of five in the RBS Regional Cup and are now just one step away from a semi final appearance which could take them to Murrayfield next April.

If they beat Melrose at The Greenyards in the Boxing Day fixture it would not only give them the Regional Cup but a place in the Border League Final plus they'd lift the Waverley Cup and the Bill McLaren Shield. Their win on Saturday against Jedforest by 56-10 was as easy as it sounds with 8 tries being run in including a hat trick for Craig Robertson, a brace for Russell Anderson and one each for George Graham, Chris Weir and Shaun Law.  One black mark was the late try they conceded - the first scored against them in 7 hours of rugby.

Neil Cook, the Jed captain, went over for the consolation score with a couple of minutes remaining for the visitors converted by Andy McLean who earlier kicked a penalty but it was one way traffic. Gala's own Andy McLean scored five conversions and two penalties for Gala to keep the scoreboard ticking over. You can watch highlights of the game including all 66 points here.

Melrose were down in London taking on London Scottish in a British & Irish Cup game but lost 28-12. Scott Wight and Allan Dodds were the try scorers for Melrose with Wight converting one but the result meant that the Borderers will not be progressing to the knockout stages of the competition. But this huge local derby on Boxing Day (2pm kick off) will be one of the biggest fixtures this decade with so much at stake. Make sure you are down there for the clash!
