Both Gala and Kelso were under strength due to injuries and weddings, writes Stewart Wallace, so some players had to be drafted in who would not usually be playing for the 2nds. The match started with some good handling moves and pacy running by the Gala backs which led to two unconverted tries scored out wide. Kelso replied with a penalty after an offside infringement at a ruck. In the second half, after some strong driving play by the Kelso forwards they scored a try by Roy Maxwell which was converted by Kieran Wilkinson. Midway through the half Kelso took the lead after a massive penalty kick by Wilkinson from the 10 metre line out by the touchline but Gala hit back to score another try which put them back in the lead. Kelso kicked another penalty but still needed a try to win the game. Near the end the Kelso backs attacked from inside their own half and a tremendous break by Nathan Trotter through the centre, combined with some excellent handling and interplay, led to Andrew Haig sidestepping his way to the line and go in under the posts to snatch the game.
