This season's inaugural Borders Rugby Awards at Kelso was a celebration of Borders Rugby with most of the 17 clubs in the area in attendance. Awards were once again given out to the clubs and players from the Borders who have excelled throughout the season.

BRTV teamed up with our media partners Radio Borders to stage an event which brought the curtain down on the season. Proceeds went go to grassroots rugby in the Borders. All clubs who attended had their name in the draw with Peebles winning £1000 to go towards grassroots rugby at the club.

The 2010 Dinner saw two guest speakers - Selkirk, Scotland and British Lions legend John Rutherford and SRU Vice Chair Archie Ferguson. The evening was a celebration of Borders Rugby as our clubs came together under one roof representing the cream of the South of Scotland!

Hawick ended the season by picking up three top awards.  They beat off all local competition to win the Scottish Hydro Team of the Season trophy by scoring the most league points (84) this season. To cap an excellent night for the club, Greens forward Bruce McNeil was voted Borders Player of the Season by the local media, while Hawick captain, Kevin Reid, picked up a special Radio Borders award for his contribution to Borders Rugby. Kevin retired at the end of the season and he certainly quit at the top, after leading Hawick to promotion back to Premier 1. He also broke the club record for most appearances in the history of the club.

Organiser and host Stuart Cameron said: "It was a terrific way to celebrate Borders Rugby. Seeing our local clubs coming together on the night was good to see and it's clear that this area in the South of Scotland continues to produce quality rugby players."

Among the other recipients of trophies were Fraser Thomson of Melrose (Top Try Scorer with 16) and Ewan Scott (Jedforest) who scored most points by a Borderer this season with an impressive 192. Gareth Hill of Berwick picked up the Borders National League Top Try Scorer award (10) while Hawick YM's Gregor Welsh landed the trophy for most points with 175.

Hawick YM won the Best Attack, Best Defence and Most Tries awards by a local side in the National League but their local rivals Hawick Linden walked off with the Borders National League Team of the Season title.  Gala YM were winners of the top Borders East League Team.

Other winners were Melrose (Most Tries and Best Attack in the Borders) and Gala (Best Defence) while the SCRUM magazine award for achievements at grassroots level was given to Selkirk Youth Club, who went through the season undefeated, and then won seven of their eight 7s tournaments.

Finally, in the prize draw at the end of the night, Peebles RFC were given £1000 to go towards grassroots rugby at the club, Hawick RFC won £250 and Gala YM landed the prize of rugby kit from Scottish Hydro.
