BT Cup begins this weekend

Clubs take a break from league action this weekend with Round 1 of the BT Cup and Round 2 of the BT National Cup. The big fixture is on Friday night when Jedforest take on Melrose. It will be interesting to see if Jedforest, having beaten Gala 65-6 a few weeks ago, can retain their unbeaten home record against the full force of Melrose, unbeaten in all competitions all season and chalking up big scores along the way. Melrose Head Coach Rob Chrystie has said that he will be taking Jedforest very seriously and is expected to put out a full strength team for the clash. He will be fully aware that Jed gave Heriot’s a fright last year when coming within an ace of knocking out Premiership side Heriot’s. Look at our preview here. Extended interview with Melrose coach Rob Chrystie can be viewed here.

Hawick host Selkirk while Boroughmuir welcome Gala to Meggetland.  In the National Cup Round 2 it’s a Friday night return match for St Boswells at Hillhead-Jordanhill looking to repeat their league win there earlier in the season. Peebles are at home to Haddington on Friday night for their match in the National Cup. Kelso will play Howe of Fife at Poynder Park on Saturday.

Meanwhile Melrose have announced the launch of the Melrose University 7s competition at the Greenyards on Sunday 1st April, hoping to attract some of the top students teams in Scotland. It will be a big opportunity for some of the more talented young men and women in the country to play at the Home of 7s Rugby.
