Jedforest lift Earlston 7s trophy as Melrose are shocked by the Powerbombs
Sunday, May 1st, 2016
Jedforest returned to top form after a couple of poor tournaments to beat Watsonians in the Earlston 7s Final today, winning 35-21. Melrose had won the previous six tournaments and after a superb display yesterday at Kelso where they scored tries for fun, they were hot favourites to make it 7 in a row. But the invitation side, the Scrum Powerbombs, shocked everybody by knocking them out in the quarter final after they took the scalp of Gala, and that result means we are realistically looking at a two-horse race for the title now, with Jedforest and Watsonians battling it out for the overall title. Jed have a seven point cushion and could wrap up the title at Selkirk next Saturday if they score four more points than Watsonians in the tournament. Watch highlights from the final here.
