bordersrugby.net

We use data from league matches only (not play-offs) to ensure a level playing field for the eight Borders clubs in the RBS Premiership and National Leagues, and also the seven in the East League Divisions. If there is a tie, we use the average amount of points scored in each game played.

Scottish Hydro Electric donated the trophy back in 2009 to be competed for by all Borders clubs in the National and Premiership leagues. The stipulation was that all clubs would have an equal chance of winning this award irrespective of which division they play in. So a handicap system is used. Each club’s match points total are divided by games played to give an average per game. Horse Racing, Golf and many other sports adopt a handicap system, so it is not unusual in sport.

Note that the club rankings of Borders clubs is also published here, which is determined by each club’s current position within the framework of Scottish Rugby’s Premiership, National and East League format …
