Melrose completed the halfway stage in the BT Premiership with another home win and a bonus point in beating Hawick 30-20 at The Greenyards, but the game was much closer than many had predicted. An improved Hawick performance saw them score two tries from Gary Munro, while Melrose wrapped up their ninth try bonus of the season by the interval with a try each from Fraser Thomson, Richard Ferguson, Murdo McAndrew and Grant Sheills. Melrose now have opened up a gigantic 16 point lead at the top of the table with their nearest rivals, Currie, having lost a third of their matches already, such is the dominance of the black and yellows this season. In BT National 1 Selkirk got back to winning ways with a 34-31 victory at home to GHA, scoring five tries including one from Steven Hamilton (pictured). Watch highlights here. The shock of the day was Stewart’s Melville comeback from 24-0 down to beat Gala at Netherdale by 31-24, a result which could well come back to haunt the Maroons later in the season. Jedforest went on a scoring spree at Falkirk to win 62-22 while Kelso deserved far more out of their home game with unbeaten leaders Edinburgh Accies. Leading for a large part of the game, Kelso were eventually worn down by the City side who won 17-27, denying the Borders side any points at all.
In National 2 Peebles won again, beating GHK 30-21 while St Boswells stay 4th in National 3 with an away win at Gordonians 27-17.
In East League 1 the local teams had a clean sweep of victories, Berwick, Duns and Hawick Harlequins all winning comfortably at home. EL2 saw more Borders wins. Langholm and Hawick Linden won on the road, Gala YM posted a victory on their own patch but Earlston lost heavily in their away match.
