George Graham handed Hawick Head Coach job

Following seven straight defeats in the first seven matches under Darren Cunningham, Hawick RFC have offered George Graham the Head Coach job tonight. George came on board a couple of weeks ago to help with specialist coaching duties despite earlier in the season being very happy to sit the season out watching his boys George, Guy and Gary playing rugby for Penrith, Hawick and Newcastle Falcons respectively. Hawick have managed just two losing bonus points and two try bonus points so far in the BT Premiership, and with heavy defeats at Heriot’s (7-70) and Boroughmuir on Saturday (18-60), the team just above them in the table, it was clear something needed to be done to try and change the fortunes of the Greens who recruited well in the summer months with the signing of several new players including Craig Hamilton, Guy Graham, Dom Buckley, Ross Combe, Matty Carryer and Gary Munro.  Hawick’s next game will be on Saturday at home to Ayr, who are currently in third having put 40 points on Heriot’s on Saturday, and it won’t get any easier after that with the derby at the Greenyards against high-flying unbeaten Melrose.

Darren Cunningham has agreed to stay on as Backs Coach of Hawick. Stuart Cameron spoke to George and you can see this exclusive first interview here.  View short version for ITV here.
