Hawick take scalp of Gala in thrilling Booker Border League match

Hawick began their Booker Border League campaign in style as they aim to pick up their 50th Border League title in the history of the longest rugby league competition in the World. Taking on Gala in the first competitive game of the season Hawick raced to a comfortable 22-7 lead at Mansfield Park with three tries from Ross Combe (pictured), Lewis Ferguson and Dom Buckley, two of them converted by Ali Weir who also kicked a penalty, to a try by Scott Wilkinson converted by Gregor Hunter.

Playing against the wind in the second half, Hawick conceded two converted tries by Gregor Hunter and Rex Jeffrey (both goaled by Hunter) to get to within a point of the Greens, but a pushover score by Matt Landels gave Hawick the bonus point win by 27-22.  Watch the tries here.
