Melrose march on with sixth bonus point win – Gala still unbeaten in NL1



Melrose went over 40 points again in the BT Premiership with a win over second placed Stirling County on the road by 40-27 to maintain their unbeaten record, all with try bonuses. Ali Miller was this week’s hat-trick hero as Melrose ran in 6 tries in all, with Fraser Thomson, Sam Pecqueur and Ross McCann also getting over the paint. Craig Jackson converted five of them. It was the perfect start for Melrose as they raced into a 19-0 lead which County couldn’t come back from.

Hawick lost again at home and are still without a win at the bottom of the table. They lost 23-41 to Watsonians but were up 13-3 at the break. Dom Buckley, Keith Davies and Lewis Ferguson were the three try scorers for the Greens with Ali Weir kicking the rest of the points. Watch TV report here.

In BT National 1, Gala won the derby at Kelso 36-21 to stay unbeaten and keep second place in the table, while Selkirk and Jedforest both won their home matches against Cartha Queens Park (41-29) and Musselburgh (49-27) respectively.

Peebles recorded their second win of the season at home to West of Scotland (33-10) while St Boswells also won 36-20 at home to Haddington in Divisions 2 and 3.

In the East Leagues Duns and Berwick both won their games in the First Division, while in Division 2, Langholm won the derby against Gala YM 36-0. Hawick Linden overcame Penicuik while Earlston were beaten by table-toppers Barnton.
