Melrose on fire as they pile on the points at Kelso

Melrose’s involvement in the 15s Cup and League has prevented them from competing as they would have liked in the Kings of the 7s tournament this season, but you won’t hear any of the players or coaches moaning about it. “That’s just the way it is – we have to get on with the job in hand,” said Player of the Tournament Richard Mill after his Melrose colleagues destroyed all-comers as they swept to a third win in a row at the Kelso 7s today. Seeing off leaders Jedforest in the 1st Round, they then took the scalp of Boroughmuir before smashing Watsonians 52-5 in the Semi Final and then racking up a massive 57-19 win in the Final against current K7s champions Gala, who put out Hawick, Edinburgh Accies and Kelso in their earlier ties.  Melrose head for Earlston tomorrow looking for a seventh straight win at that venue, and on this form, with over 100 points scored in their last two ties today, you wouldn’t bet against them.
