Two out of three wins for the Borders & East Lothian in Academy matches

The Borders & East Lothian Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 squads did battle against Edinburgh at the 3G pitch at Netherdale today and came out with two wins out of three.  Despite going down 14-34, the Under 16s played some good rugby with Jed’s Aiden Bambrick and Hawick’s Rhys Tait scoring two tries which were both converted by Christian Townsend, son of Gregor, who was one of many high profile Scottish Rugby representatives in attendance.

The Under 18s went into a 10-0 lead thanks to early touchdowns from Alex Clarke (Preston Lodge) and Ben Muncaster (North Berwick) before going behind 10-13. But a late try by another North Berwick player, Eck Allan, sealed the game for the home side.

On paper it was a very strong Borders & East Lothian Under 20 squad which lined up, and former Jed and now Hawick scrum half Gary Munro sizzled with three penalties and a try to run the show and take his team into a comfortable 17-0 lead before retiring injured. Edinburgh got a converted try back but further scores from Jed’s Finlay Scott and Melrose’s Ruairi Campbell sealed the win.
